Sports Therapy is a relatively new discipline within the health care sector and is becoming increasingly popular among, individuals and teams of all sporting levels.
Sports Therapy focuses mainly on soft tissue injuries. These include muscle, tendon, ligament, connective tissue, fascia etc. It can also assist in the treatment and rehabilitation of back and neck pain (chronic and acute), knee and hip pain, post operative rehabilitation, golfer/tennis elbow and repetitive strain injuries.
The treatment for each individual may vary. Therefore on your initial consultation an assessment will take place which will allow a specific treatment plan to be devised. This may involve several visits.
The rehabilitation phase is an important part of the process and focuses around getting an athlete back to playing their sport. All fitness components are essential to this prcoess and these include, flexibility, speed, muscular endurance, cardio vascular endurance, strength and balance. Programmes are devised for each individual and also incorporate relevant skills from their sport. The rehab programme is monitored closely, and develops as the individual advances, and phasing the athlete back into their sport is also monitored.
Maintenance work is often carried out too. This is mainly where an individual feels they benefit from regular treatments i.e. chronic back problems etc. This is when the phrase: “prevention is better than cure “ comes to mind.
